Seems quite logical. It would be the equivalent of always having the button pressed. A quick check would be to hold the button down before starting the car, start it with the button still down, and see whether Auto Start Stop is disabled from the beginning, or needs a moment or two of power to get things straight before checking the button.
Yeah the autokill switch is great, which just auto-selects start/stop off when the car starts. Way better off with that. I hated-HATED engine start/stop in my old car. Not saying it isnt possibly effective, but it cuts A/C, it doesnt always work when you need it to based on sensors and temperature, and just feels weird as hell.

I didn't even try to remove the buttons. All I did was remove the plug from the bottom of the assembly, connect the through harness, and using an L shaped plier and my hand plugged it back in. Took me 5 minutes.

Long story short I bought obdeleven and here how to disable it: Go to "Driver Assistance" -> "Long coding" find "Configuration_for_lane_departure_warning_Kl15" and change it to "Last_setting". Newest SW versions of VW gateways doesn't react on well known adaptation workarounds (e.g. change S/S start voltage limit to 12.1V..) Got the same situation on my 2020 Kamiq.
